Our Story

Principal, Tim Biddlecombe, brings an impeccable reputation and vast industry experience. Passionate about research and helping clients develop successful marketing and communications strategies – he has over 35 years’ experience working for major brands in many international markets.

Most notably, Tim co-founded research agencies The Leading Edge in 1990 and Arnold & Bolingbroke in 2001 and was, most recently, Head of Strategy at BrandHook.

TJBS, “the largest small insights agency”, works with specialist consultants to deliver unique, full-service capability to all client needs.

A great example is our close working relationship with The Interpreters; Paul Dixon with Chris Binney & James Shelley provide quantitative survey and digital horsepower, via skills in all facets of survey design, data collection and analysis.

Eleanor Cyron worked with Tim at BrandHook and brings strong qualitative skills to the team, both face-to-face and online. At Jigsaw Research, she gained rich experience working in advertising. Elle is a skilled moderator and analyst with particular expertise in brand, pack and communications research.

Martin Le Grice is a highly skilled, independent, qualitative researcher who has a 20-year relationship partnering with Tim.

Following a background in brand management (Nestle) and advertising (McCann Erickson), he fell in love with qualitative research in the mid-90’s and has lived and breathed research ever since.

He is especially strong in B2B research and has consulted to clients across a wide range of industry categories – especially in financial services, IT&T, education, retail, government policy and advertising.

Our Approach

The word ‘insight’ is as over-used term as one will ever hear. Frankly, an insight isn’t worth a jot unless it can be interpreted to link in a fresh, motivating way with your product or service’s key features.

How we do this is a delicious blend of contemporary science and art. We look both close and deep. We are very aware of the implications of System 1 and 2 brain activity, conscious and unconscious drivers etc. and we use a wide array of synergistic tools (including Jungian archetypes and sensate projective techniques) to reveal fresh insights that we help you build into brand positioning and communications strategy.

And because your customers neither say what they mean nor mean what they say, we understand the pro’s and con’s of traditional research ‘ask and tell’ methodologies and digital platforms. We know when ‘watch and listen’ approaches are needed, especially with CX work.

How we share these insights and resultant strategy is achieved simply and clearly and managed with all stakeholder groups with diplomacy.

We use measurement techniques and tools to understand the broader context of market and opportunity sizing, target market behaviour and characteristics.
